Reminder Re VN Registration

All Clinical Coaches (who are veterinary nurses) should have renewed their annual registration by now (1 Nov).

Remember, if there is a lapse in your registration you will not be able to act as a Clinical Coach during that period. We suggest if you have not renewed your registration and you still wish to remain on the VN Register then you should contact the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) as soon as possible on 0207 222 2001.

Changes to OSCE Tasks

There have been very minor changes to a few of the tasks – essentially wording only.

LD08 – wording change to the scenario to indicate right carpus.  Identification of horse no longer included.  Task steps remain the same.

NC19 wording change to the task to include that the tablets will be given twice daily.  Remainder of task remains the same.

NC21 – addition to the scenario “a. Carry out a routine check of the catheter site and IV line to ensure that it is suitable for administration of medication (explain to the examiner the checks you are making)”.

SA03 – minor word change with no effect on task

Nursing Progress Log-In Update…

We are waiting for the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) to issue the last batch of NPL Log-Ins. As soon as we receive them we will email the details to relevant students. We are hoping they will be back from the RCVS next week.

VN Times ‘Inspiring Pets’ Calendar Competition

To showcase Veterinary Nurses’ impact on animal welfare, VN Times are running a competition to find 12 inspiring pet stories and photos worthy of featuring on their 2013 calendar.

VN Times want to hear your stories about pets that have inspired you; the survivor you’ve nursed back to health – despite everyone secretly thinking it couldn’t possibly come out the other side, a special rescue pet, or an animal that survived in the face of adversity.

It’s a common occurrence – a pet that comes into the practice in a terrible state, but survives against the odds due to your excellent nursing care, and inspires a place in your heart for putting up such a valiant fight.

The winner will receive a Fujifilm camera worth £1,700! Eleven runner-up prizes of a digital camera will also be awarded to each winning pet featuring in the calendar.

To enter you will need to email a high resolution photo of the happy companion, with a story of why the pet is so inspiring (in a maximum of 100 words) to inspiringpets@vbd.uk.com before 24 October 2012. You should include the pet’s name, your name, telephone number, your qualifications and your address. Postal entries should be sent to Inspiring Pets, FREEPOST ANG3480, Olympus House, Peterborough PE4 6BR.
